Tall Fashion

I'm tall. Nearly six feet tall. This often makes me feel like an Amazonian, which isn't always a bad thing. I'm also not slim. There are times where I'm healthy and active (yet still soft) and others where I could stand to exercise more. I try to accept my body in all of its imperfect forms. I've found that clothes that fit well make all the difference in my self image. I'm not willing to spend a lot of money on clothing, so I spend a little extra time finding the best deals.

Death by snoo snoo!

Here's a quick summary of my favorite retailers that cater to the vertically blessed women of the world:

  • Old Navy- my only stop for fast fashion, I always filter down to just the items that are on sale and come in my size.
  • Gap- my favorite pair of skinny jeans are Gap high waisted skinnies; I check their sales periodically.
  • Beta Brand- work pants that feel like yoga pants, need I say more?
  • Victoria's Secret- I recently bought a pair of their tall pajamas, which quickly became my go-to lounge clothes. Their high leg briefs also hold in my wobbly bits without looking too frumpy. My biggest issue is that they don't carry plus sizes. Boo.
  • TJ Maxx- especially now that they have an online shop, I love TJ Maxx for cheap dresses and accessories. They don't have designated tall sizes but their plus selection is solid.
For items that aren't length specific (shoes, bags, accessories) here's a list of my top shopping sources.
  • Nordstrom Rack- the clearance shoes and bags here are awesome. Check at the end of a season for the best deals. I can't wait for winter/spring when their boots go back into clearance.
  • Hautelook- Nordstrom's "event" based deal site, there are great accessory and beauty sales here.
  • MyHabit- this is Amazon's response to the "event" based deal craze. They have a wide selection of prices and quality, so I tend to skip the events and go straight to categories where I can filter by price and size.
  • Ross- I'm a sucker for a bargain, what can I say?

Tips and Tricks

  • Wear those heels, just make sure they're comfortable. There's nothing sadder than watching a girl hobble and slip around like Bambi on ice. I swear by my Naturalizer pumps, I can walk for miles in those. On top of feeling fabulous you also get a better vantage of everyone's bald spots. Bonus!

  • Keep your head held high. Posture gives a lot of non verbal cues and you don't want people to judge you based on your slouch. Confidence is sexy!
  • Beware of juniors sizing. Everything runs short (especially dresses) and no one wants to flash their undercarriage to strangers.
